Egg Gourd Kaleidoscope

Checkerboard Basket

Description: This is a fun basket to make! As you weave it, you will start to see the design of a checkerboard. The basket will have a 7-9"gourd base prepared with spokes, painted and sealed ready for weaving. Reed colors may vary. ​
Students Must Provide: An apron and a towel. Tools will be provided, but if you want to bring your own, please do.

From Igba to Sekere

Description: Students will create two adorable fur babies-a dog and a cat (or two of the same), using gourds and qwikwood. These are designed to be cute and folksy, but students may choose to make as realistic as they desire.

Students Must Provide: Students should bring paint brushes-at least 1 small brush for detailed painting, and a heat gun for drying paint; all other materials will be provided by instructor.

Tiny Treasure Gourd

Description: Weave a wax linen rim on a mini gourd. Learn to weave with wax linen and beads. All the gourds will be different colors and you choose your wax linen color. Every Tiny Treasure will be unique.

Low heat Rose pyrography

Description: Come and learn the low heat woodburning technique and burn this rose on a large egg gourd. We will utilize low heat shading without burning outlines to create the rose image.

Students Must Bring: An adjustable temperature woodburner with a small ball or writing tip pen.

Leaf Carving on a Gourd Shard

Description: During this class, I will be demonstrating my carving and texturing tips, tricks and techniques I use in the creation of my art! Together we can break the mental barrier that all of us at one time or another have experienced with regard to the approach of designing an art piece. We will discuss how to find both the design and physical balance your gourd art will need in order to create a gallery worthy piece.
Students will apply the carving techniques to their gourd shard in three stages; setting lines, lowering background and carving their design. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please understand that you may not be able to complete the gourd shard carving during the class, but you will leave with the knowledge to complete your carving.​

Instructor will provide: 3 gourd shards per student.
Students Must Provide: High speed Carving tool and bits, such as Dremel, Master Carver Micro-pro, etc., and all of your safety PPE (dust mask, safety glasses, ear plugs if needed).

Angel Watching Over Me

Description: Students will be provided with a pre-dyed gourd. They will first drill holes for the legs and arms, and after gluing, they will then add sari ribbon scraps to make the angels dress. Sari ribbon is never the same and is made from vintage saris. The colors are beautiful and almost jewel-tone. No two angels will look alike. Luffa for hair, beads, buttons, feathers, and waxed linen thread complete the design!

Pathways of Fun Egg Shell Mosaic

Description: We will be creating a design on our gourd that includes a pathway. Each participant will choose a theme that has a path involved. (Flower garden, steam through the woods, etc.). The theme basics will be wood burned. Then a path will be carved to provide a trench for our crushed egg shell pathway.

Students Must Provide: Wood burner, Carver. I will have extra to share as well.

Mouse Trap

Description: Students will create a cute little mouse using qwikwood and Tennessee spinner gourds. Each adorable little Mouse will be mount on a "modified" mouse trap if desired. This is a fun and creative class for all levels of experience.
